How to get Direct Admission in Deemed Medical Colleges in Pondicherry

The above-listed medical colleges are Private Medical Deemed Universities. The counseling is taken care of by the centralized counseling committee MCC.  The distribution of seats is 15% of the total intake is in the NRI Quota, and the rest 85% of the seats are management quota.

The seats are allotted online by MCC as per merit, and students’ preference while doing option entry. The students desirous of studying in these medical colleges should qualify for NEET.

The students, after qualifying for NEET, should register themselves on the MCC website by paying a registration amount of Rs 5000/- and a Refundable security deposit of Rs 200000/- to participate in the counseling process for these colleges.

The student can opt for the Deemed Medical Colleges of other states through the same counseling procedure of MCC.  The students opting for NRI category seats should apply and convert their category to NRI at the timeline prescribed by MCC in their portal. The procedure and documents required will be mentioned in the doorway.

The counseling process consists of three rounds.

The First Round, Second Round, and Mop-up round are conducted online. After these three rounds are completed, an online stray vacancy round is conducted by the counselling authorities MCC, and the allotment of seats to the deserving students based on the NEET Rank.

A student seeking admission in the offline mop-up round should verify independently, as there is no such thing as an offline allotment. The name will not appear on the list if the student has previously been allotted a seat at any college but didn’t report. In such cases, a student is barred from taking admission in the stray round.

In the online mop-up round, the leftover NRI seats are converted to normal seats. So, the vacant seats are allotted to the meritorious students.

In all the rounds of counseling that take place online, the student has to download the admission order pay the prescribed fees, and report to the college with the original documents and fee payment receipt.

Why Pondicherry is a Hub for Deemed Medical Colleges

Puducherry has emerged as a deemed-university dominant medical ecosystem because:

  • Small geographical size with high institutional density
  • Strong private and trust-based educational networks
  • Proximity to Tamil Nadu medical infrastructure
  • Established hospital infrastructure in urban Puducherry

Deemed universities account for a larger proportion of MBBS seats here compared to many Indian states.
