I had been waiting for a long time to write about one of the best dental colleges in Bangalore, Vydehi Dental College. I visited the college personally and it was a great experience seeing the quality of the infrastructure and other facilities provided by the college.

Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre also known as Vydehi Dental College was established in the year 2003-2004 in the city of Bangalore in the EPIP area of Whitefield. This Dental College has post-graduation or MDS in all 9 branches of Dentistry. Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences is on the same 60 acres of Campus of Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center VIMS.

Dr. D A Kalpaja is the director of the Vydehi Group of Institutions and Dr. Mohan Thomas Nainan is the current Principal of the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre. Dr Thomas is also the head of the Department for Conservative and Endodontics.

Vydehi Dental College Bangalore Admission

Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences is affiliated with RGUHS and so the counseling for the seats for BDS and MDS is taken by the Karnataka Examination Authority, also known as KEA.

NEET Qualified dental aspirants for BDS and MDS  from all over the country can apply for direct admission to the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences.
Interested participants have to register in the KEA portal and fill out the application. The students have to lock the choices as per their college of preferences and those who are interested to join the Vydehi Institute of Dental sciences should keep the Vydehi Institute Dental sciences as their priority.

  • For Applying to the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research center for admission in BDS and MDS courses a student should be Eligible in NEET.
  • The student should have appeared at NEET and should have qualified for the examination by securing Minimum Eligibility marks.
  • Category benefits for Eligibility are applicable to state-domicile students only.

Step by Step KEA Counselling Process for Admission

Students both from Karnataka and other states of India can apply to KEA for selection in the BDS course at the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences. Only the Eligibility criteria are different for different category students and different States. Common Eligibility Criteria is NEET qualification.
However, category reservation benefits for Eligibility criteria are applicable to students from the Domicile state of Karnataka only.
Registration of students in KEA
Before the application process, a student has to register on the KEA website. On registration, the student will get a USER ID and has to keep a password of their choice. (It’s better to click a photo of that for the record)
After registration, a student has to log in with the USER ID and Password and fill out the Application. The student should fill in the necessary details and Keep a copy of the Signature, Parents’ Signature, and Student Passport Size Photo ready in order to upload and complete the application process.
The final stage of the application process is the payment for the application which can be done through NET Banking. After payment, Take a screenshot of the payment made and then download the application copy. Then the next stage is document verification.
Process of document verification.

The different processes of document verification for different category students are there. In order to make it simple for the readers, let me narrate it in a way that no important points are missed.

The process of document verification would be either online OR offline. Till the Year 2019, the document verification for all the students from any state was done offline in KEA.

The year 2020 document verification process went online for KEA.

The year 2023 batch document verification was both online and offline. Document Verification is offline for Karnataka State domicile students and NRI Students whereas it was online for students from other parts of the country. Karnataka state domicile students who have filled their application in UG CET need not appear again for document verification however, they should link and register their NEET roll number.
Karnataka State domicile students who have not appeared for UG CET should be present in the KEA office along with the supporting documents for Document Verification. Non-Karnataka Students who have registered, applied, and paid the application fees should upload their marks and pdf of the 10th Marks Card, 12th Marks Card, and NEET scorecard in the KEA portal online.

Any students claiming NRI Category should be present at the KEA center along with the originals for document verification. After verification, they would be given a verification slip with their UGET number and Secret Key which will be used for the choice locking.

Here are some of the courses offered by Vydehi Dental College:

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS): This is an undergraduate program in dentistry.

Master of Dental Surgery (MDS): This is a postgraduate program that allows specialization in various dental disciplines. The specific specializations may include:

Intake in Vydehi Dental College

Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences has 60 seats intake capacity for BDS courses and 21 seats in total for Post Graduation.
3 PG seats are available in each of Oral Surgery, Periodontics, and Community Dentistry. Whereas 2 seats of PG are available in other departments such as Endodontics, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Medicine, and Oral Pathology.

Vydehi Dental College Bangalore Fees Structure

BDS Fees

The Fee for BDS as per the year 2023 batch is as follows, The Fee for Government Category seats in Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences is Rs.95,808. These category fees are for the Karnataka state domicile meritorious students who are allotted seats through KEA counseling.
The Fees for private quota seats are Rs.3.62 lakhs per year. This category of seats is open to all students from all across the country. Even Karnataka State domicile students are eligible for these category seats.
The Fees for NRI category seats and OPN category seats are the same and are Rs.3.62 lakhs per year.
Miscellaneous Fees in Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences for BDS and MDS courses.

Apart from the basic college fees, a student has to pay a separate fee like other fees for the Materials, University registration, etc. This is an Rs.88,000 one-time payment at the time of admission. Apart from this separate books and uniform fees payable, one time is Rs.50,000.

Together it constitutes a separate one-time payment of Rs.1.38 lakhs which comes over and above the normal payable fees.

On-Campus Facilities

When we compare the infrastructure of the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences with the other top dental colleges located in India, there are some advantages.

Firstly, It is located in the heart of the city in the IT Corridor known as Whitefield. Secondly, It is on the same campus as the medical college and since the dental college Hospital and Medical College campus share the same wall, the infrastructure looks huge.

Thirdly, Because of the amount of Land this campus has, and the kind of way they are maintained, it looks like a College inside a well-maintained garden.

Fourthly, Due to its location in the busy IT Corridor, security-wise it is safe for the students.
Fifth,  This college is surrounded by many good star hotels and family-business hotels to stay in. So, parents visiting students from other states can choose to stay in one of these hotels at a walkable distance from their children. This helps the parents to meet their children and come back to relax in their hotel room during their class hours.

Patient Inflow and OPD.

Patient inflow and per day new OPD is never a problem for the students of Vydehi dental college and Research Centre. Since the campus is in the heart of the Whitefield area, lots of patients from outstations and even IT Professionals are been witnessed there. The patients from this area generally visit Vydehi dental College for their Dental treatment due to the kind of good facilities over there.

Hostel and Mess Facility

Inside Campus three sharing rooms are available for the Students pursuing their BDS course at the Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre. The annual Hostel Fee for BDS students is Rs 1,70,000 per annum. It includes both food and lodging. The Refundable security deposit is Rs 10000 only.

Separate Mess for both boys and girls are available on the campus itself. Both vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian Food along with North Indian and South Indian Cuisines are served in the mess of this Dental College.

Responsible Hostel Warden and Security are Maintained in the campus and hostel for both Boys and Girls.

Hostel Warden

Separate Boys Hostel Warden and Girls Hostel Warden are there for the students. The name of the warden for the Boys Hostel is Dr. N Jagadeesh. Professor and HOD of the Forensic Medicine Department. The name of the warden for Girls Hostel is Professor Dr. Vidya S Joshi.

Canteen Facility

There is a Mobile Food Truck on the Campus for the students and Patients inside the campus just opposite the Dental College and Medical College Building. Sometimes, the student makes use of this during their break hours in order to avoid walking to the Hostel Mess since it’s a big campus and it’s a little bit of a walk from their Academic sections.

      Yes the fee structure is same for every year which is fixed by the KEA or Karnataka Examination Authority.
