MDS Admission through Management Quota 2025 – The Ultimate Guide

Welcome to CareerMudhra, your go-to resource for comprehensive guidance on MDS admissions through Management Quota. This special edition is designed for dentists who aim to pursue MDS, offering insights into different pathways, including MDS through management and NRI quotas.

Throughout this guide, we’ll dispel common myths surrounding MDS management seat costs, admission procedures, and more. It’s crucial to note that NEET-MDS qualification is a prerequisite for admission to any dental college in India.

So, Let’s start with the type of MDS admission in the management quota, There are 2 types of MDS admission in the management quota:

  • Private dental colleges: Private dental colleges are established, funded, and operated by private organizations or individuals.
  • Deemed dental colleges: Deemed dental colleges are affiliated with a public university but funded and operated privately by organizations or individuals, with degrees considered equivalent to the public university since they have been deemed university status by the Ministry of Education.

There’s no concept of DIRECT ADMISSION since the academic year 2017; such practices are deemed illegal. All students should appear at the NEET MDS Exam and secure a minimum cutoff parental. Also, To get admission to private dental colleges, attend counseling organized by the state authority (like KEA in Karnataka). For deemed dental colleges, attend counseling conducted by the MCC. Each state has its counseling authority for private colleges, such as KEA in Karnataka.

In the previous year, I personally knew students who secured last-minute admissions to vacant seats at surprisingly low prices.

However, an unforeseen development occurred when the Karnataka High Court nullified management and NRI seats not secured through centralized counseling procedures, leaving many shocked. NEET MDS 23 has concluded, with the results declared. The minimum qualifying marks for category students are 238 and above, and for the general category, it’s 272 and above.

As students eagerly await counseling procedures, it’s essential to understand that MDS admissions through management quota can only be secured through counseling. Participation in MCC counseling is mandatory for seats in deemed universities.

Additionally, attending counseling conducted by the respective state DME is required for admission to private dental colleges within that state. For instance, a student seeking an MDS seat in a private dental college in Karnataka or UP should engage in counseling procedures led by KEA in Karnataka and UPDGME for colleges in UP.

Key Takeaways:

  • NEET-MDS qualification is mandatory for MDS admission in any Indian dental college.
  • MDS admission through management quota is only possible via centralized counseling procedures.
  • Top recommended colleges based on budget and quality include SDM Dharwad, Manipal, and AB Shetty Mangalore.
  • Fees range from around ₹6-22 lakhs for the full 3-year program across specialties.

How to choose colleges for MDS Admission through Management Quota

I will explain to you how to select a college for your dental post-graduation in a simple way. The major two things to keep in mind are the patient exposure in the college and the HOD or PG Guide in the specific college.

  • I would strictly prefer you to opt for colleges which are having very good patient exposure. You are doing your post-graduation to learn more in-depth about what you studied during your UG. So make sure there are more than enough patients to treat and learn in college.
  • You should enquire through your friends and contacts about the patients. In some colleges, there will be a lot of patients, but the student-patient ratio will be worse. So also do enquire about the student-patient ratio.
  • Through your contact, you should inquire about the HOD or the Guide in a specific department of a college. I had heard many colleges have very good faculty. But, they might be very harsh in treating students and teaching.
  • Don’t think about the faculty of other departments of the college. Only do care for the faculty of your required department.
  • In my college, I had seen Endo as the coolest department, and the students there are able to learn a lot.
  • Everyone reading this knows you have to do a thesis during your dental PG.
  • Investigate through your friends how much the expense for a thesis during PG is under the specific HOD. I know a friend who does MDS in Endodontics and was having an expense of Rs.1 lakh for the thesis. On the other hand, his friend is doing a thesis just for Rs.40k.
  • This might help candidates who are having financial problems.

These are from my personal and my friend’s experiences. That is the reason I am sharing it in a simple and personal way.

Other secondary things you want to keep in mind while selecting a college(Not so important, but some may take this very important :P):

  • Location of College and Distance from your native place. You can check for this, as you won’t be able to bunk a lot of sessions during your PG.
  • Climatic Conditions of the place. Some students might be allergic to a cold climate and some to others. These are personal preferences etc.

MDS Admission through Management Quota Admission Procedure 2025

First, you must decide in which state you have to take MDS admission. Think you want to join a dental college in Bangalore for MDS admission, then you must attend the complete counseling procedures of the state.
The steps involved in short:
Step 1: Register for state counseling.
Step 2: Document Verification.
Step 3: First-round counseling.
Step 4: Second Round counseling.
Step 5: MOP-UP Round.

Step 1: Register for 1st Round of Counseling

To take MDS admission you have to register for state counseling which will be conducted by different authorities of a state. For example, in Karnataka, the state counseling is conducted by KEA or Karnataka Examination Authority.
There will be a registration fee of around Rs.1000 to Rs.5000 which varies every year. You must register using all the correct information.
Tip: Please give the same mobile number and e-mail ID that you used during NEET entrance registration.

Step 2: Document Verification

Now after the registrations are over, they will verify your documents according to the rank. Normally the document verification used to be offline.
However, due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the document verifications have been made online. In a few states, you have to deposit a security amount of Rs.1 lakh which will be adjusted in your fees or refunded.

Step 3: 1st Round Counseling

Now using the login credentials, you have to choose the choice of college and department you need and lock the choice. After a few days, the results will be published.
If you weren’t allotted a seat, then you can attend the second round of counseling.

Step 4: 2nd Round Counseling

The procedure is the same as the first round of counseling. If you weren’t able to get a seat in the second round then you can attend the MOP-UP round.

Step 5: MOP-UP Round

During the MOP-UP round, all the leftover seats will be allotted to students according to their ranks. Normally it used to be an offline process, where the students have to come down to the counseling center.

The seats that will be left over after the MOP-UP round will be given to the college management, which can be given to students on the mentioned fees.

They will be keeping a deadline for the admissions and the admission will be closed within 10-15 days after the MOP-UP round.

In the above-listed colleges, almost all the departments are good in means of quality and patient exposure. I would prefer you to choose the department first and then select the college.

There might be some colleges that are well known for a department, like the Orthodontics department, which is in demand at Bapuji Dental College, Davengere, etc.

welcome to our blog on MDS admission through Management quota.
You can wait for the second round of counselling. There has been a trend of lowering of qualifying marks after the second round and before the mop up round.
You can wait and watch till that time . If the trend of lowering of qualifying percentile still persists for the MDS Session 2022 , then you will surely be eligible and can opt for the colleges and branches of your choice.
I hope that i have been able to answer your query.
      Best of Luck.

    • Dear Hassan,

NEET qualification is mandatory to join for MDS in any dental college. 50 percentile for General category and 40 percentile for other categories. There are chances that at the last moment, DCI will reduce the cut off marks if seats are vacant. But there is no guarantee of the same.

You can get colleges in MP, but you must qualify NEET MDS.
