MBBS Admission in Meghalaya Overview

Did you know that Meghalaya in the Northeast Indian hills has more than 50 government-sponsored seats for MBBS every year? Aspirants choose the state for MBBS due to the growing importance given to healthcare and medical learning. Admissions rely mainly on the NEET-UG exam that all candidates must take. The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong is the only government MBBS college in Meghalaya at the moment.

Several quotas are set for student admissions. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) oversees the All India Quota (AIQ), which reserves 15% of the seats. Meghalaya residents are qualified to apply for the State Quota seats, which reserve 85% of the medical spots. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare manages the Central Pool Quota, which offers reserved seats for applicants who come from specific backgrounds.

Meghalaya provides excellent study and hands-on experience at its MBBS colleges. However, gaining admission requires dedication and a high NEET rank due to high competition and few openings. Start reading if you want to learn everything there is to know about MBBS admission in Meghalaya!

Admission Process

According to the guidelines established by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) and the National Medical Commission (NMC), admission to the MBBS program in Meghalaya is determined by the NEET-UG score. The application procedure is quite straightforward:

Admissions Procedure:

  • NEET-UG Registration: Applicants should score the required marks on the NEET-UG to be eligible. Eligible students must sign up on the portal, attach their documents, and pay counseling fees to become registered.
  • Provisional Merit List: It is created by using all available criteria on reservation, NEET scores, and eligibility.

  • Seat Distribution: It is based on reservation criteria, college choices, and rankings; the results are published online.
  • Document Verification & Reporting: Candidates need to validate their admission by submitting their documents before reporting to the assigned college.
  • Final Admission: Students must start college after completing tuition payments and their associated expenses.

Types of Admissions:

  • MCC administers the All India Quota (15%).
  • The Meghalayan government’s Directorate of Health Services administers the State Quota (85%) to candidates from Meghalaya through the official website.
