MDS Admission in Bangalore

If you wish to pursue an MDS in Bangalore, you should note that it requires you to go through a structured admission process. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is responsible for conducting the counseling and seat allotment process for MDS admissions in government and private colleges across the state. Below is a step-by-step guide to the admission process for MDS in Bangalore.

Here, I will tell you in detail about the admission process for Karnataka state as the same follows for Bangalore as well.

1. Entrance Exam Qualification

The first and foremost requirement for MDS admission in Bangalore is to qualify for the NEET-MDS entrance examination. This exam is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and serves as the mandatory eligibility criterion for candidates seeking admission to MDS programs in India. Only candidates who achieve the minimum required cutoff percentile in NEET MDS will be eligible to participate in the counseling process conducted by KEA.

2. Registration for Online Counseling

Once the NEET MDS results are declared, eligible candidates must register online for counseling through the official KEA website. Registration is a crucial step, and candidates must provide accurate details while filling out the application form. This process includes:

  • Providing personal and academic details
  • Uploading required documents
  • Paying the counseling registration fee

Candidates must complete their registration before the deadline, as failing to do so will make them ineligible for further admission processes.

3. Document Verification

After completing the online registration, candidates are required to verify their documents in person at the KEA office in Bangalore. This step ensures that all the provided information is accurate and valid. Candidates must carry both original documents and photocopies for verification. The required documents generally include:

  • NEET MDS scorecard
  • BDS degree certificate
  • Internship completion certificate
  • Karnataka domicile certificate (if applicable)
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Government-issued ID proof

Only after successful document verification will candidates be eligible to participate in the choice-filling and seat allotment process.

4. Attending Online Counseling

Once the document verification is completed, candidates must log in to the KEA website on the scheduled date to participate in online counseling. This step involves selecting preferred MDS colleges and specializations based on rank, availability of seats, and personal preference.

5. Choice Filling and Locking

After logging in, candidates must:

  • Choose their preferred department and college from the available options.
  • Carefully rank their preferences based on their priority.
  • Lock their choices before the deadline to confirm their selections.

Once choices are locked, modifications cannot be made. Therefore, candidates must review their selections thoroughly before submitting.

6. Seat Allotment Results

After the first round of online counseling, KEA will publish the seat allotment results. Candidates who are allotted seats must:

  • Confirm their admission by paying the prescribed fees.
  • Download the admission order from the KEA portal.

If a candidate does not secure a seat in the first round, they can participate in the second round of counseling.

7. Mop-Up Round

If candidates are unable to secure a seat in the first and second rounds, they can participate in the Mop-Up Round. This round is conducted to fill any remaining vacant seats after the second counseling round. Candidates who wish to participate must:

  • Have completed the option entry process before the deadline.
  • Log in to the KEA portal and check the availability of seats.

The Mop-Up Round is conducted online, and only eligible candidates will be considered for seat allotment.

Final Admission and Reporting to College

Once a seat is allotted in any of the rounds, candidates must:

  • Pay the admission fees.
  • Report to the allotted college within the given timeframe.
  • Complete any additional formalities required by the institution.

Failing to report to the allotted college within the given timeframe may result in cancellation of admission.

MDS Course Fees in Bangalore 2025

The fee structure for each department and college is fixed by KEA and the college management. The fee structure differs from college to college. I will give you an idea about the fee structure for each department. This is not the exact fee structure for MDS in Bangalore. These are approximate fees charged for any department.

SpecialtyAnnual Fees Range (in lakhs)
Orthodontics6.8 lakh – 18 lakh
Endodontics6.8 lakh – 18 lakh
Oral Surgery6.8 lakh – 15 lakh
Prosthodontics6.8 lakh – 14 lakh
Periodontics4.5 lakh – 14 lakh
Pedodontics4.5 lakh – 8 lakh
Oral Pathology1.62 lakh – 5 lakh
Oral Medicine1.62 lakh – 5 lakh
Preventive and Community Dentistry1.62 lakh – 5 lakh

Most dental colleges will charge extra for materials, hostel, and food. You can expect around Rs.80,000 to Rs.1 lakh/per year for materials and Rs.70,000 to Rs.1 lakh per year for hostel and food.

You can read my detailed post about MDS course fees in Bangalore. If you want to have a general idea about the fee structure for MDS in dental colleges in India, then you can read my article about MDS Course Fees in Private Colleges.

If you feel you are not able to afford the tuition fees in Bangalore, then you can also opt for MDS admission in other states of India. I would suggest you go for MDS admission in Delhi, as many reputed dental colleges near Delhi have comparatively low fees.

Choosing a College for MDS Admission in Bangalore

There are around 12 dental colleges in Bangalore that have MDS courses recognized by DCI, and it is a bit difficult to choose the best one for you.

First of all, decide which branch you want to take admission to. I always keep it in the first row because each college will be known for a few departments. There are very few colleges where all the departments are good.

So after you let me know about a department, I will tell you which colleges are good. Only then will you have to think of other factors when choosing a college.

Patient Flow

The college must have very good patient exposure, especially if you are choosing a clinical branch. It is not the number of patients the hospital has. I would say the student-patient ratio must be good.

Faculties

The college must have good faculty who can guide and teach you well. There are many colleges in Bangalore where the HOD is not that good and doesn’t give cases to students.

To enquire about the Head of the Department, the guide and other supporting staff. Whether they are good at supporting students academically or mentally.

Fee Affordability

Also, see whether the college rips off your pockets. I didn’t mean the tuition fee.

I mean the extra fees charged by the college in the name of Material Fees and other extra fees. Almost all the colleges in Bangalore charge a material fee, which ranges from Rs.80,000 to Rs.1.5 lakhs per annum.

Conclusion

I had tried my best to give you complete information regarding MDS admission in Bangalore. If you loved the post, please do share it with your friends and family. If you have any questions regarding the admission procedures, feel free to comment on the questions below.
