You might be thinking, what is there to explain in this right? Unlike before when you could go and get direct MDS admission to any dental college, you must attend the NEET MDS- entrance and qualify for the exam. Yes, NEET qualification is mandatory to gain admission for MDS in any dental college in India. In 2024, around 30000 student candidates appeared for the NEET MDS exam in 56 cities across India.

There are 12 private dental colleges in Bangalore offering PG courses in dentistry. For admission to any private dental colleges in Bangalore under the management quota in batch 2024, the student should have qualified for NEET-2024 by securing the minimum qualifying percentile.

The students who have missed the qualification by small marks can take a chance of getting the qualifying marks reduced. They should keep themselves updated with the counseling process so they don’t miss out on the year due to a lack of information.

Many consultants in India offer direct admissions to top dental colleges. However, please understand that you cannot be directly admitted without attending the online counseling procedure.

Don’t trust me? Check the official news about online counseling in the Hindu newspaper here. 😀

MDS Admission/Counseling Procedure in Karnataka [2024]

Here, I will tell you in detail about the counseling procedure in Karnataka. The major steps of the admission procedure in Bangalore are:

  • Qualify for the NEET-MDS entrance exam.
  • Register for online counseling conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority, also called as KEA.
  • Document verification: You must verify your documents by visiting the KEA office in Bangalore on the given date.
  • Attend Online Counseling: After your document verification, you must log in to the KEA website on the declared date.
  • Choice filling: After logging in to KEA, you must select the department and college you want to join and lock your choice.
  • Allotment Results: After the first online counseling the allotment results will be published. If you weren’t able to secure a seat in the first round, you must attend the second counseling.
  • Second Round Counseling.
  • MOP-UP Round: If you weren’t able to get a seat in the first and second rounds of counseling, then you can attend the MOP-UP round. Those seats which are vacant after the second round will be allotted in the MOP-UP round. The MOP-UP round will also be conducted online and the candidate must have done the option entry.

These are the steps involved in the counseling conducted by KEA. It’s not like in 2022 or earlier when, after the MOP-UP round, you could take MDS admission directly from the college. You must attend the whole counseling procedure without fail and should have done the option entry cautiously.

To avoid seat wastage the KEA has also kept a security deposit for the students who want to attend the MopUp round or stray vacancy round of counselling. This process was followed up in the year 2023 KEA counseling and is expected to follow in KEA 2024 MDS counseling.

Note: If you didn’t register and attend the counseling procedures, then you won’t be eligible to take direct admission after the MOP-UP rounds unless and until the counseling authority comes up with a new set of registration and document verification..

If you feel you are not able to afford the tuition fees in Bangalore, then you can also opt for MDS admission in other states of India. I would suggest you go for MDS admission in Delhi, as many reputed dental colleges near Delhi have comparatively low fees.

Choosing a College for MDS Admission in Bangalore

There are around 12 dental colleges in Bangalore that have MDS courses recognized by DCI, and it is a bit difficult to choose the best one for you.

First of all, decide which branch you want to take admission to. I always keep it in the first row because each college will be known for a few departments. There are very few colleges where all the departments are good.

So after you let me know about a department, I will tell you which colleges are good. Only then will you have to think of other factors when choosing a college.

Patient Flow

The college must have very good patient exposure, especially if you are choosing a clinical branch. It is not the number of patients the hospital has. I would say the student-patient ratio must be good.

Faculties

The college must have good faculties who can guide and teach you well. There are many colleges in Bangalore where the HOD is not that good and doesn’t give cases to students.

To enquire about the Head of the Department, the guide and other supporting staff. Whether they are good at supporting students academically or mentally.

Fee Affordability

Also, see whether the college rips off your pockets. I didn’t mean the tuition fee.

I mean the extra fees charged by the college in the name of Material Fees and other extra fees. Almost all the colleges in Bangalore charge a material fee, which ranges from Rs.80,000 to Rs.1.5 lakhs per annum.
