After which the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu, oversees the admission process, which includes counselling and seat allocation across multiple rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, and Stray Vacancy rounds.

MDS Admission Process in Tamil Nadu 2025

Following are the steps to follow on MDS Admission Process in Tamil Nadu 2025:

  1. Registration for Tamil Nadu NEET MDS Counselling

Step 1: Registration for Tamil Nadu NEET MDS Counselling

Eligible candidates must register online for MDS admission through the official websites:

The registration portal opens as per the DME (Directorate of Medical Education) schedule.
Note: Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple submissions will result in rejection.


Step 2: Payment of Application and Registration Fees

Candidates must pay the non-refundable application and registration fee through the online payment gateway.
Double-check the details before payment, as no corrections are allowed after submission.


Step 3: Payment of Security Deposit

Candidates must pay a refundable security deposit as fixed by the Directorate of Medical Education, Tamil Nadu.

The deposit is refunded if the candidate either takes admission or exits as per the rules.


Step 4: Uploading Required Documents

Candidates must upload self-attested and clear scanned copies of the following documents during registration:

  • NEET MDS Admit Card and Scorecard.
  • Aadhaar Card + one additional ID proof.
  • BDS Degree Certificate or Provisional Pass Certificate.
  • CRRI Completion Certificate.
  • Permanent or Provisional Dental Registration Certificate.
  • Passport-size and postcard-size photographs.
  • For NRI candidates: Embassy-verified documents, financial proof, NRE account details, and relationship certificate.
  • Eligibility Certificate (if studied outside Tamil Nadu).
  • Community Certificate (for TN-based SC/ST/OBC).
  • Minority Certificate (if applicable).

All original documents must be produced at the time of college reporting.


Step 5: Release of State Rank List

The Tamil Nadu Selection Committee will publish the State Rank List based on NEET MDS scores after document verification.
The list will be available on the official portals.


Step 6: Choice Filling

Shortlisted candidates must log in to the portal and submit their preferences for:

  • Desired colleges.
  • Specialization streams.

Important: Once locked, choices cannot be changed.


Step 7: Seat Allotment

Seats will be allotted based on:

  • State Rank.
  • Category reservation.
  • Preferences filled during choice filling.

Candidates must download the allotment order and report to the assigned college within the given deadline.


Step 8: Reporting to Allotted College

Candidates must physically report to the allotted college with all original documents and the allotment order.
Document verification is mandatory for confirming admission.
Non-reporting leads to automatic seat cancellation and possible forfeiture of the security deposit.


Step 9: Post-Allotment Instructions

Candidates who fail to join or discontinue the course after seat allotment may face:

  • Forfeiture of the Security Deposit.
  • Debarment from future Tamil Nadu counselling rounds.
  • In some cases, full course fee liability if withdrawal occurs after deadlines.

Note: For admissions into Deemed Universities in Tamil Nadu, candidates must apply through the MCC All India NEET MDS Counselling process, not the state-level system.

Eligibility Criteria for MDS Admission in Tamil Nadu

The following are the eligibility criteria for candidates seeking MDS seats under the Management Quota, Government Colleges, or Government Quota in Private Institutions.

NEET MDS Qualification:

  • Candidates must qualify for NEET MDS 2025, conducted by the National Board of Examinations.
  • Eligibility will be determined based on the regulations prescribed by the Director General of Health Services, Government of India.

Citizenship Requirements:

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Foreign Nationals are eligible, subject to state and institutional regulations.
  • OCI cardholders are treated on par with Indian citizens for Open (General) category seats as per the Supreme Court’s order.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a BDS degree recognized by the Dental Council of India.
  • Those from universities other than Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University must obtain an Eligibility Certificate from the university at the time of admission.

CRRI (Internship) Completion:

  • Candidates must have completed or be completing their Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) by the mentioned period.

Minimum NEET MDS Percentile and Cut-off Scores:

The following is the 2024 cut-off score, just for your reference. The NEET MDS cut-off score for 2025 will be updated after the exam is conducted

For Tamil Nadu natives in reserved categories, the minimum is 40th percentile in NEET MDS.

Registration with the Dental Council:

  • Candidates must have valid registration with the Dental Council of India or a State Dental Council and provide documentary proof during counselling.

Candidates opting for Government colleges/Government quota in Private institutions

→ Nativity and Community:

Candidates claiming Tamil Nadu nativity must submit a Nativity Certificate issued by the Tamil Nadu Revenue Department and Community Certificates for reservation claims.

  • Other State Candidates: Candidates from other states who completed their BDS in Tamil Nadu are eligible only for Open (General) category seats.
  • Dual Nativity Claims: If candidates claim dual nativity, it will result in disqualification.

→ Service Candidates:

  • Service candidates must have completed a minimum of two years of continuous service as of 31.03.2024 in the Tamil Nadu Government or Local Body Institutions.
  • Service candidates must have at least five years of service remaining after completing the MDS program.
  • Temporary appointees and candidates working in Registered Societies or self-financing institutions are considered non-service candidates.

NRI Quota Guidelines: (For candidates opting for NRI Quota)

  • NRI applicants must be of Indian origin and meet certain conditions, such as submitting valid Indian passports and other documents proving NRI status and financial support.
  • Only bonafide NRIs or their children/wards are eligible under this category.

Eligibility Certificate:

  • Candidates from universities other than Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University must submit an Eligibility Certificate at the time of admission.

MDS Admission in Tamil Nadu Counselling Process: 2025

The counselling process for MDS admissions consists of four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (Mop-Up), and Stray Vacancy Round. These rounds are conducted online, with specific rules and eligibility criteria. The process is subject to changes based on the guidelines of DGHS, DCI norms, and court orders.

  • Non-Joining Penalty: Candidates who discontinue after deadlines or fail to join after allotment must pay a discontinuation fee of ₹15 lakhs.
  • Any unauthorised absence exceeding 15 days post-admission is treated as discontinuation, and the seat is reallocated.
