Here, I am with another post about one of the nursing colleges in Karnataka. which is Dr.M.V Shetty College of Nursing Mangalore. I have gathered information through my own research.  Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing Mangalore Overview

Dr.M.V.Shetty Group of Institutions was founded by the Late Dr.M.V.Shetty was an eminent person in his professional field of surgery. He was a surgeon who built the first private multi-specialty hospital in Dakshina Kannada District. He established the Trust in his name.

Dr.M.V.Shetty College came into existence in the year 1987. It was among the first private sector institutions in Karnataka, which started the nursing programs. The vision of the college is to prepare nurses who are dedicated to serving humanity and society.

The institution is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and is also recognized by the Karnataka State Nursing Council and Indian Nursing Council.

Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing is also called as M.V.College of Nursing. It is located in the most breathtaking and beautiful city of Mangalore. Its lush green campus is on Kavoor Road, Vidya Nagar, Mangalore, in Karnataka 575013 Karnataka.

Various courses in Nursing as B.Sc. (Nursing) were started in 1987-88, Post B.Sc.(Nursing) began in the year 1989-90 and M.Sc. began in the year 1992-93.

 

Courses 

Dr.M.V. Shetty College of Nursing Mangalore offers various courses for undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The programs are B.Sc. (Nursing), Post Certificate B.Sc. (Nursing), and M.Sc. (Nursing).

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing)

The course curriculum of B.Sc. (Nursing) is for a period of four years which includes a clinical internship of around twenty-four weeks. The student intake for the course is eighty students every academic year.

B.Sc. Post Certificate in Nursing

Post Basic B.Sc. The degree is a course based on the skills and knowledge acquired during the diploma at the nursing level. It aims at improving the nursing skills, competencies, and standards required for practicing nursing under the National Health Policy. The student intake for the course is thirty-five students per year. The duration of the course is for a duration of two academic years starting from the date of commencement notified by the university.

Master of Science M.Sc. In Nursing

Master of Science or M.Sc. in Nursing is a post-graduate program that is based on the B.Sc. in nursing which is recognized by the Indian Nursing College. The course duration is for a period of two years.

Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria for getting admission to B.Sc. (Nursing) are:

  1. Students must pass in 12th standard or Pre-University Examination which has been conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State or Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with English as an optional and aggregate score of Physics, Chemistry and Biology must not be less than forty-five percentage. Or
  2. SC/ST students must have scored a minimum of forty percent.
  3. Students passing vocational courses of Higher Secondary Education from Kerala with domestic nursing and having a minimum of five subjects apart from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English must score a minimum of forty-five percent.SC/ST candidates must score a minimum of forty percent.
  4. Must be seventeen years during the time of admission.
  5. Must obtain a Physical Fitness Certificate stating that he/she can undergo the course.

The eligibility criteria for getting into B.Sc. Post Certificate in Nursing are:

  1. Students must have passed the Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM).
  2. Must be a registered nurse.
  3. Must have passed the pre-university examination in Arts/Science/Commerce held by Karnataka State Pre-university examination department or equivalent which is recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  4. Have a good knowledge of English.
  5. Students must be medically fit.
  6. Have a good personal and professional record.

Students wanting to get admission to M.Sc. in nursing must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Must have passed B.Sc. (Nursing) or Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) or Post. Certificate B.Sc. Nursing from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore, Karnataka, or any other University which is considered equivalent by RGUHS must have scored a minimum of at least fifty-five percent marks. In the case of SC/ST, marks must be around fifty percent.
  2. .Minimum experience of one year after completing B.Sc.(Nursing) or work experience of a minimum of one year before or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Degree or Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing, in a hospital or nursing educational institute, has got recognition from Indian Nursing Council.
  3. Work experience certificate will be considered only from the Issue registration certificate issued by the Concerned State Nursing Council.
  4. Must be registered as a nurse and Midwifery in any State Nursing Council.
  5. Students must be physically fit.

Following documents in Originals for B.Sc Nursing must be submitted along with one attested copy at the time of getting admissions:

  1. Aadhar ID (Xerox copy).
  2. S.S.L.C/10TH Standard Mark sheet.
  3. Marks card of qualifying examination 10+2(both 11th and 12th standard) for the undergraduate course.
  4. Mark sheet of qualifying degree examination.
  5. Transfer Certificate issued by the college.
  6. Migration Certificate issued by the University for students from other than the University of Mangalore.
  7. Character Certificate/Conduct Certificate issued by School/College studied last.
  8. Provisional Pass Certificate from the University of Mangalore.
  9. Certificate of Internship.
  10. Physical Fitness Certificate issued by a Government Medical Officer.
  11. Passport size photos.
  12. For students from Nepal-Nepalese citizenship certificate and date of birth in Indian Almanac (A.D).
  13. Students from another country:
  • Passport, student visa, and date of birth in Indian Almanac.
  • Certificate of Eligibility for BASLP: Students completing the qualification exams outside Karnataka must apply for the eligibility certificate from the University of Mangalore.

Following documents in original must be submitted for B.Sc Post Certificate in Nursing along with one attested copy at the time of admissions:

  • Aadhar ID (Xerox Copy).
  • S.S.L.C (10th Standard Mark sheet).
  • Marks card of qualifying examination 10+2(both 11th and 12th standard) for an undergraduate course.
  • Mark sheet of qualifying degree examination.
  • GNM Mark sheet for the three years.
  • Transfer Certificate issued by the college.
  • Migration Certificate issued by the University for students from other than the University of Mangalore.
  • Character Certificate/Conduct Certificate issued by School/College studied last.
  • Provisional Pass Certificate from the University of Mangalore.
  • Certificate of Internship.
  • Physical Fitness Certificate issued by a Government Medical Officer
  • Passport size photos-8.

The original certificates should be submitted for M.Sc Nursing at the time of admission along with one attested copy. Certificates must be attested and sent along with the application form.

  • Students who have completed their qualifying examination outside the state of Karnataka must apply for an eligibility certificate from RGUHS, Bangalore in a given format. The application can be downloaded from the download section.
  • Filled up application with D.D of Rs 1100/-drawn in favor of Dr.M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust, payable at Mangalore must be sent to the office of Trust, for obtaining eligibility from the University.

College Life at Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing Mangalore

Dr. M.V. Shetty Group of Colleges has got its lush green campus in a beautiful place in the city of Mangalore. The campus is well established with amenities for the students when they are far away from their homes. The campus facilities are:

Hostels at Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing Mangalore

Separate hostel accommodation is provided for the girls and boys. It is compulsory for girls till the course completion and for boys, it is compulsory only for the first year. There are five hostels that are maintained by the Trust.

Canteen facility at Dr.M.V.Shetty College of Nursing Mangalore

M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust campus has got spacious canteen facility for the staff members and students. Vegetarian, non-vegetarian foods and snacks are provided at nominal rates. North Indian and South Indian cuisines are prepared for the choice of students.

The Trust has got a fleet of buses for transporting students from the college to the hostels. The facility is available during clinical internships, university work, and sports and cultural competitions at different colleges.

The Physical Education Department takes care of the inter-collegiate tournaments in different sports and games within the campus and outside the university. Sports Tournaments in games are organized in the month of January every year.

Library

The library is the knowledge hub of the institution. It is very spacious and the students are given library membership cards. There are four libraries with fourteen thousand books related to medicine, around forty national and international journals and one thousand one hundred volumes of journals, and one thousand four hundred theses.

Computer Lab was started in 1994 at the campus. It imparts training, basic knowledge, and application to the students.
