Before I start, I would like to tell you that the qualifying NEET-PG entrance exam is mandatory for admission to any medical college in India.

You must also register for counseling procedures at MCC (Medical Counselling Committee). Additionally, specify the state where you want to take admission for either MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MS (Master of Surgery) courses.

Some states in India invite applications for students of other state domicile students also to take part in the counselling procedure of their state medical private colleges under private and NRI quotas.

However, you have to apply separately, irrespective of applying to MCC, in order to be eligible for participation in the counselling process.

For example, if you want to take MD MS admission in Karnataka, then you must register for online counseling on the Karnataka Examination Authority’s official website. Without attending online counselling, you cannot take any seat in any medical college in India.

Even for direct admission for MD MS, you must register for counselling. Unregistered candidates won’t be eligible for taking admission to any medical college in India.

You can read the official news given in The Hindu newspaper.

Dear Viewers,

We hereby would like to give some updates on the NEET Counselling for the academic session 2023.

Some key differences that we have been able to note are:

  • Qualification and Revised Qualification.

In the year 2022- The qualifying marks for the General category were 275, and ST/SC/OBC was 245. This year, qualifying marks were revised to 201 for General category students and 186 for ST/SC/OBC students after the second round of counseling and before the MopUp round of counseling.

In the year 2023- The qualifying mark for the General category is 291, and for the ST/SC/OBC is 257.

Revised qualifying marks are awaited, and like every year, it’s expected in the MopUp round of counseling.

  • Major Difference and Changes in Deemed University NEET PG Counselling 2023;

NO OFFLINE ADMISSIONS OR STRAY VACANCY ROUNDS WOULD BE CONDUCTED AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL.

This is a major change that can be seen in the Deemed University Counselling during NEET PG 23.

Till the 2022 academic session, the fourth round i,e the round after the third round of counselling, which was also called as mop-up round for the vacant seats, was conducted offline at the college level by the institutes.

In the 2023 academic session, there is no provision to conduct any offline rounds. The fourth round is now called as MopUp stray vacancy round and will be conducted online by MCC.

There is no clarity on the admission of seats that will be left behind vacant after the conduction of the fourth round of counselling.

Also, the students can opt for upgradation of seats in the third round as well from the second round.

A general suggestion for the students who are willing to opt for upgradation is to keep sufficient amounts in their account to pay the fees for the respective colleges since the refund from any institutes allotted in the earlier round might take some time. So, it is advisable to make an informed decision instead.

NOTE:- The above-mentioned guidelines and changes are for the MD MS admission in management quota in private Deemed universities in India.

Till now, there is no clarity with respect to the changes in the private medical colleges that come under state health universities such as Karnataka, whose counselling is conducted by KEA.

What Happened in 2021 MD MS Admissions? I want to share a few experiences from the year NEET PG 2020 counseling. This could serve as a protip in making your mind clear and will help in decision making.

  • The counseling was delayed a lot. Then, the Supreme Court of India interfered and gave the decision.
  • The Eligibility score was 302 for the general category students and 265 for the reserved category students.
  • The Eligibility was reduced at the later stage of counseling during the Mop-Up round by approximately 15%.
  • Due to this, the number of students who got freshly eligible went very high.
  • I witnessed lots of students who could not qualify for the past 4-5 years get qualified. So, taking advantage of this opportunity, no students wanted to miss out on the seats available in private medical colleges.

On the last round of counseling (not only Karnataka BUT entire states of India), all the seats of all branches(both NRI and Q quota) got filled up, and the students who kept waiting to take the unallocated seats at lower fees ended up losing one more year. So, taking the right step at the right time and staying updated with information was very important for the students eyeing PG seats in Medical colleges in India in the year

A few institutes like AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER, NIMHANS, and Sri Chitra Tirunal Institue of Medical Sciences take admission separately and will not be included in the centralized counselling.

MD MS Through Management Quota: Admission Procedures

There are a few steps to get direct admission through the management quota for MD/MS. I will list and explain the procedures below:

StepDescription
Steps-1Register for Online Counselling.
Steps-2Document Verification (Different state, Different set of rules).
Steps-3Online Counselling Round 1.
Steps-4Online Counselling Round 2.
Steps-5MOP-UP Round.
Steps-6Online Stray Vacancy Round.
Steps-7Download the allotment letter from the counselling authority website of the state where you got the allotment.

Step 1- Register for Online Counselling

Now let me explain the process involved after you have a qualified NEET-PG entrance exam. The first step is that you must register for counselling. You can register for All India 50% Counselling through MCC or the state counselling conducted by respective state counselling authorities. There will be a registration fee of around Rs.1000 to Rs.2500, depending on the state.

Step 2- Document Verification (Different state, Different set of rules)

After you have registered for the counselling, you will have to verify your documents either online or by physically going to the verification center. In a few states, you don’t have to go to the center. During the verification, you will have to submit a Demand Draft of Rs.2 lakh- 5 lakh (depending upon the state-to-state and PG seats required in Dentistry or Medical, which will be deducted from your first-year fees). In some states and counselling authorities, this security deposit won’t be adjusted with fees but would be returned back to the student account after the counselling is over.

In a few states (For example- Karnataka), you don’t have to deposit any security amount till MopUp round. However, KEA registration is mandatory in the rounds after the MopUp round a security deposit of Rs 3 lakhs was kept. So, the option entry portal was enabled only for the students who had paid the security deposit.

Step 3- Online Counselling Round 1

After the document verification, you have to attend the first round of online counseling. You will have to log in and lock in your choice of department and college. Check your results and see whether you are able to secure a seat.

Step 4- Online Counselling Round 2

The same procedures will be repeated in the second round of counseling.

Step 5- MOP-UP Round

If you weren’t able to secure a seat in both rounds, then you can attend the MOP-UP round.

Now you might be thinking, what is MOP-UP Round, right?

The seats that are vacant after the two rounds of online counseling will be allotted during the MOP-UP round. For the MOP-UP round, It is also conducted online, they must follow the guidelines as mentioned on their website.

Step 6- Online stray vacancy Round

For those seats that are vacant even after the MOP-UP round, you can participate for the stray vacancy round or any number of rounds it gets conducted due to rising vacancy of seats.(These seats are unfilled seats or the seats that students could not take because of their higher fee structure or might be because of any other reasons of the student).

However, the candidate must register and attend the whole counselling procedure, and they should not have been allotted any seats in any medical colleges in India till that round.

Or else , its considered as seat blocking and the student might be debarred from writing NEET for the next year.

Step 7- Download the Allotment Letter

Download the allotment letter from the state’s counseling authority website where you got the allotment.

MD MS Admission Through Management Quota: Fee Structure of Private Colleges & Deemed Universities

Here comes the most complicated part, due to which there has always been confusion in expectation and reality between the Students. Fees will be different for different courses in different colleges, different places, and different states. The fee structure is different as per the category and quota.

In order to make it simple, I would like to give a basic Idea. Fees are kept different for Govt Category seats, P quota, Q quota, and NRI quota. The other state domicile applicants are not eligible for govt seats other than in their states.

The tuition fees will be listed on the state authority website and MCC; you can get all the details there. For example, if you want to know the fee structure in Karnataka, then check the Karnataka Examination Authority website. The websites will be different for different states.

The tuition will range from Rs.10 lakh/year to Rs.125 lakh/year, depending on the department and colleges. For example, MD pathology management seats will be having one cost, and Anesthesia will be having another.

MD MS Admission Through Management Quota: College Selection

Now that I have given you all the details about admission procedures for MD/MS through management quota, I want to tell you in detail about “How to select a college to join?”. These are the few things I would suggest to all the candidates before taking admission for MD or MS in any college in India.

  • Patient Flow: Enquire whether the college has excellent patient exposure or OPD. Especially if you are planning to take any clinical department, this is very important if you want to improve your practical skills and knowledge. You can inquire through your friends and professors at UG College to get a better idea about it. Also, you can get help from your Educational Consultant, who has personally seen and experienced the colleges and gives you thorough ideas about the campus, location, Management, and Hostel.  In many medical colleges, few departments will have excellent patient flow. So, never judge a college by its infrastructure and fancy looks.
  • Head of the Department: Also inquire about the HOD and guide of the department. There are many colleges with great faculties. You don’t have to care about the HOD of other departments; know more about the professor of your department.
  • Extra Charges: All medical colleges will be charging an extra fee for materials or facilities they provide. Of course, you have to pay for the hostel and food. Before joining, inquire whether the college only charges an affordable extra fee. Most of the colleges charge from 80000/- to 170000/- per annum as miscellaneous fees.

These are the major things I would look into if I was in your place. Apart from these, I would also suggest you know about:

  • Location: Whether the college is easy to access and is well networked by road and rail.
  • Climatic: If you are able to adjust to the climatic conditions. Every place won’t be as nice as Bangalore. 😛

This article has been prepared to position me and Keep me in a student’s shoes.

      Congratulations
It depends upon the branch and colleges you are targetting in Private medical colleges or deemed universities.
Different private medical colleges in different areas have different fee structure in both management quota and NRI quota for different branches of post graduation in medical field.
Since there are many branches in postgraduation from MD Anatomy to MD Radiology the fee structure is also different.

The options for the colleges depends upon the unfilled and unallotted branches after the 2nd round of counselling in different private medical colleges and deemed universities in different states.
Since the fee structure is different in different colleges , that can be said once the fee structure is revealed by all the colleges.
We have Emailed you the details on this.
      ThankYou
