MBBS Admission in India 2024
To be frank, the medical admission process for MBBS is a bit complicated. Read this carefully to understand the complete procedure for taking MBBS admission 2024.
First of all, the candidate must meet the eligibility criteria and also qualify for NEET UG.
I would like to tell you that all admissions to medical colleges are done through centralized counseling. There are two counseling one is conducted by the MCC and the other by the respective authority of the state government.
MBBS Admission Process in India 2024:
The step-by-step process involved in MBBS admission is listed below. It is mandatory for every student to undergo all the steps to ensure the success of their admission. The basic steps for MBBS admissions are as follows:
Qualify for the NEET exam.
The first and most important step is to apply for the NEET-UG entrance exam and qualify for the exam. To get admission to any medical college in India or even abroad, you must qualify for the NEET exam.
Choose which state to join
You will have to select the state in which you wish to take MBBS admission.
Register for state counselling or MCC Counselling
Now that you have qualified for the exam and selected the state you would like to join, you must attend the counseling conducted by the state authorities or central authority i.e. MCC.
Complete your document verification procedures.
After the registration, there would be a process of document verification either through online or offline mode. In offline mode, the counseling authorities will ask the students to come to different centers in the state for verification of their documents, whereas, in online mode, some necessary documents listed on the website have to be uploaded.
You must carry all the original documents, which the officials will cross-check and give you a verification slip.
Attend online counseling
The first and second counseling will be online. You have to log in to the portal with your login credentials.
Lock the choice of college you want to join
After that, you have to choose the college of your choice in descending order. After choosing you have to lock the choices and submit them.
Then comes the first counseling results. If you have been allotted any seats, then you can see them, pay the fees, and download the allotment letter.
If not, then you have to attend the 2nd counseling.
Second Round Counselling
The same procedure of the first round of counseling repeats here. If you are not able to secure MBBS seats in the second round, then you can attend the MOP-UP round of counseling and get a seat.
MOP-UP round
The vacant seats after the second round will be given through the MOP-UP round to students who are present at the counseling center. However, some state like Karnataka conducts an online mode of MopUp. You didn’t get MBBS admission through the MOP-UP round, too? Now comes the stray Vacancy round.
Stray Vacancy round
After the Mop-up, the leftover or vacant seats are transferred to the management, and the colleges use to conduct the offline stray vacancy round. However, from the academic session of 2024, this process of offline counseling has been abolished in all the states in India. An online counseling process is been conducted for the leftover vacant seats. Some states such as Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttarakhand conducted an offline counseling process after a mop-up round of counseling, but that too was done at the counseling center and not at any college level.
Note: You must register for the counseling if you want to get MBBS admission in India. Later if you take a direct vacant MBBS seat without registration, it will be invalid.
For example:
If you want to get a medical seat in Karnataka, you must register online on the KEA or Karnataka Examination Authority website.
The State authorities are responsible for the counseling procedures of colleges in their respective states, and MCC is responsible for the counseling process of Deemed Universities and 50% AIQ in all government medical colleges of the country.
In order to be admitted to the private medical college in Uttar Pradesh, a student should register in UPDGME by paying a refundable security deposit of Rs 2 lakh.
In order to be admitted to Private medical colleges in Haryana, a student should compulsorily register in the counseling process conducted by PT B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak.
Then verify your documents by going to the verification center. After a few days, online counseling will start and you have to attend it.
The procedures for MBBS admission are different in different states.
MBBS Admission in India Eligibility Criteria

MBBS Admission in India Private College
There are 320 private medical colleges in India providing around 53,256 MBBS seats for MBBS admission in India.
Private medical colleges in India offer a substantial number of MBBS seats, providing an alternative to the highly competitive government institutions. These colleges typically charge higher fees, ranging from ₹5,00,000 to ₹30,00,000 per year, with some premium institutions charging even more.
Admission is primarily based on NEET scores, followed by counseling processes. Private colleges often have well-equipped facilities and modern infrastructure, but costs can vary significantly depending on the institution’s reputation and location.
