Course-Wise Eligibility

  • MBBS ADMISSION
    1. The candidate must be 17 years old by December 31 of the year of admission to the MBBS Course.
    2. The candidate must have achieved passing grades in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English on their own, as well as a minimum of 50% on the combined exam for the Pre-University (PU) Course or its equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology. 
    3. The required minimum score in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology combined for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes in the qualifying examination shall be 40% rather than 50%.
    4. The candidate must have taken and passed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG) of 2020 to be admitted to the MBBS program under the guidelines established by the Government of India.
  • MD & MS ADMISSION
    1. Successful completion of an M.B.B.S. degree or postgraduate medical diploma through any university recognized by the National Medical Commission. 
    2. Obligatory one-year rotating internship, on or before March 31, 2021.
    3. Enrolment in the Indian Medical Council.
    4. PG-NEET 2021 certified.
    5. End of a year-long Social Obligation Service in SJMCH or affiliated hospitals following the completion of the PG program. (SJMC graduates who have served in rural areas for two years are exempt from this.)

    • IAP FELLOWSHIP IN PEDIATRIC HEMATO- ONCOLOGY
      • MD/DNB required for eligibility.

      • Candidates who have an MD or DNB in paediatrics and at least two years of work experience are eligible.

  1. A declaration stating that after graduating, they will sign a bond to work for two years in one of the selected hospitals or health centres in a rural section of the country.
  2. Eligibility Certificate from the Director of St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences.
  • For Category applicants: Roman Catholic Christian Religious Sisters (Nuns).
  1. A Certificate in prescribed format from the Superior General/ Provincial of the applicant stating that the applicant is a bona fide Professed Religious (Nun).

  1. Certificate of Baptism verified by the applicant’s Bishop.
  2. Proof that the applicant is a Native (Local) North Indian Roman Catholic Christian who belongs to his diocese, as stated in a certificate from the applicant’s bishop.
  • For Category applicants: Roman Catholic Christians of Karnataka State
  1. Certificate of Baptism verified by the applicant’s Bishop.
  2. The applicant is a bona fide Catholic who belongs to the applicant’s diocese in the state of Karnataka, according to a certificate from the applicant’s bishop.
  3. State of Karnataka Domicile Certificate in accordance with Karnataka Examination Authority requirements (KEA).
  • For Category applicants: Roman Catholic Christians – All India Open Merit

  2. There will be a penalty for late payments.
  3. In addition to the usual instalments, students whose academic tenure has been extended due to failure will be required to make additional payments.
  4. Refundable payments must be claimed within three months of successfully completing the rural bond; otherwise, the students would forfeit the deposits.

Refund Policy

  • If a student drops out of a course after being accepted but before the start date, they will not be eligible for a refund of their tuition or any deposits provided to the institution, unless another applicant fills the spot left vacant by their withdrawal. Fees will be returned after deducting 10% of the total fees payable as service charges if the empty seat is filled.
  • If a student withdraws from a course during the course period for whatever reason, he or she is responsible for paying the remaining course fees, returning the total stipend given by the institution up to the time of withdrawal, and forfeiting all deposits and other payments paid to the institution.
  • Students who signed the one-year bond to work in SJMCH and Affiliated Hospitals and drop the course would be responsible for the bond penalty.

  • The Dean Louis Monteiro Scholarship: Awarded on a merit-based basis to a student every year.
  • Rev. Fr. F.N.Loesch, S.J., and Memorial Scholarship: Awarded on a merit-based basis to a newly admitted MBBS student. This grant is renewable as long as the recipient maintains good behaviour and progress during the first M.B.B.S. course.
  • Karnataka Region Catholic Bishops’ Scholarship: awarded to a Catholic student from Karnataka on a merit-plus-means basis. This scholarship is based on the applicant’s conduct and behaviour, the applicant’s qualifying examination results, if any, and the University’s qualifying examination results.
    • Fr. John P.M. van der Ploeg’s Golden Jubilee 1982 Scholarship: Awarded to a medical student who is a religious sister.
    • The SJMC Alumni Association Scholarships: on a merit-plus-means basis, given to two MBBS students each year.
  • The SJMC Parents Association Scholarship: Awarded to an MBBS student each year based on merit and other factors.
