Hello everyone! Hope all of you are doing well. Welcome to my post on the nursing colleges. Today I am going to share information about Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing, Kolar. It is among the best-known colleges in Karnataka.

Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing Kolar Overview

Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing comes under the ambit of Sri Devraj Urs Educational Trust. It was started by a group of philanthropists under its Chairman Sri R.L.Jalappa.It began with the School of Nursing which offered a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery in the year 1995. The main objective was to provide good quality education to students.

The institution was founded in the year 1998. At that time, B.Sc. The nursing course was started to match the pace of the healthcare sector. Later on, in the year 2006, the college upgraded to higher education, with a Master of Science in Nursing and Post Graduate Degree program. In the year 2011, the Post Graduate course was introduced, so as to upgrade students in Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.

Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing Kolar is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). It is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and Karnataka State Nursing Council (KNC).In the year 2006, the college was awarded ISO-9001-2015 Certification. It has also got NAAC Accreditation with a “B” grade in the year 2021.

Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing is located on National Highway No.75, Tamaka, in Kolar-563103 Karnataka.

 

Courses

Courses offered at Sri Devraj Urs Nursing College are graduate, postgraduate, and master’s levels. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) at Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing Kolar

Nursing is a course based on the principles of caring for individuals, groups, and society. It develops the compassion and understanding of behavior with respect, dignity, and protection of the rights.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or B.Sc. Nursing is a graduate-level course for a duration of four years.

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing at Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing Kolar

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing is based on the skills and competencies which are acquired during the diploma in nursing. It is also called B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic). The duration of the course is two years.

Master of Science in Nursing Sri Devraj Urs College of Nursing Kolar

Master of Science in Nursing is also called M.Sc. in Nursing. It is a course for a duration of two years. The specializations offered are:

  • M.Sc. in Medical-Surgical Nursing.
  • M.Sc. in Paediatric Nursing.
  • M.Sc. in Community Health Nursing.
  • M.Sc. in Psychiatric Nursing.
  • M.Sc. in OBG Nursing.

Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery is also known as GNM. It is a course for a duration of three years.

Eligibility criteria

You will become eligible to get admission to B.Sc. Nursing, when you meet the eligibility criteria:

  1. Must have passed two years of Pre-University examinations, conducted by the Karnataka State Pre-university Department. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with English as options. He/she must have scored a minimum score of at least forty-five marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English took together. In the case of SC/ST, the minimum score must be forty percent. Or
  2. Must have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate Education by State Government or Central Government and which is recognized by the RGUHS/Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with the minimum score of forty-five percent. Or
  3. In the case of a vocational course conducted by the Board of Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, the students must have a minimum of five subjects apart from the vocational subject, with a minimum score of forty-five percent.
  4. Students must have attained seventeen years of age on or before 31st December on the year of admission.
  5. Must be medically fit to undergo the course.

He/she must fulfill the criteria to get admission to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing:

  1. Must hold a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with fifty percent marks.
  2. Must be a registered nurse.
  3. Should have a minimum of two years of work experience in a hospital or community health nursing.
  4. Passed Pre-university examination in Arts/Science/Commerce conducted by the Karnataka State Pre-university examination department or its equivalent recognized by RGUHS.
  5. Having good knowledge of English.
  6. Must be medically fit.
  7. Have good personnel and professional record.

Eligibility for M.Sc. Nursing is:

  1. Must have passed Basic B.sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with a minimum of fifty-five percentage marks.
  2. Must have at least one year of work experience as Staff Nurse/Tutor.
  3. Must be a registered nurse.
  4. Must be physically fit to undergo the course.

The eligibility criteria for getting into Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) are:

  1. Should have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with English with at least forty percent marks.
  2. Students who have passed 12th Standard with Arts and English core and elective or pursued vocational course from any recognized boards or equivalent board must have scored at least forty percent.
  3. Students passing 12th Standard with Arts or Science, with health care science as a vocational course, conducted by a national open school must score a minimum of forty percent.
  4. Passed 12th standard vocational ANM under CBSE Board with a minimum of forty percent.
  5. Must be registered as ANM with the Karnataka State Nursing Council.
  6. Must be physically fit to undergo the course.
  7. Students must be seventeen years of age.

Documents

Students need to produce the following documents during admissions for B.Sc Nursing:

  1. 10th Standard Mark sheet.
  2. 12th Standard Mark sheet.
  3. Caste/Income Certificate (if it is applicable).
  4. Certificate of Conduct.
  5. Domicile Certificate (if it is applicable).
  6. Study Certificate and Home town declaration (if applicable).
  7. Certificate of Employment of the parent.
  8. Proof of Residence.
  9. Identity Proof.
  10. Passport size photographs four and four stamp size photographs.
  11. Certificate of Physical Fitness.
  12. Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS (Applicable for students not from Karnataka).
  13. Certificate of Migration.

Documents needed for admissions to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing are:

  1. Degree Certificate or GNM Mark sheet.
  2. 10th and 12th Standard Mark sheet.
  3. Certificate of Transfer.
  4. Certificate of Migration.
  5. Character Certificate.
  6. Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  7. Identity proof (Aadhar/Passport/Voter ID).
  8. Physical Fitness Certificate.
  9. Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS.
  10. Four passport size and four stamp size photos.

The documents required for M.Sc. Nursing are:

  1. Basic B.Sc. Nursing or Post-Basic B.Sc. Year-wise Mark sheet.
  2. Certificate of Transfer.
  3. Certificate of Migration.
  4. Character Certificate.
  5. Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  6. Identity proof (Aadhar/Passport/Voter ID).
  7. Physical Fitness Certificate.
  8. Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS.
  9. Certificate of Experience mentioned.
  10. Four passport size and four stamp size photos.

Documents required for GNM are:

  1. 10th and 12th Standard Mark sheet.
  2. Certificate of Transfer.
  3. Certificate of Migration.
  4. Character Certificate.
  5. Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  6. Identity proof (Aadhar/Passport/Voter ID).
  7. Registration Certificate as ANM from Karnataka State Nursing Council.
  8. Physical Fitness Certificate.

The parent hospital, R.L.Jalappa Hospital, and Research Centre have a multi-specialty hospital. It has a thousand two hundred bed capacity with an advanced critical care center with accreditation from NABH.

For giving insights into more clinical experiences, there is an integration with Narayana Hrudalaya Super Speciality Cardiac Hospital.

Playground/Gym

Physical health is extremely necessary for a healthy mind. A lot of importance is given to indoor and outdoor sports facilities. There is also a gym for the students in the hostel.

Anti-Ragging Committee

Ragging is strictly not allowed on the campus. There is an Anti-Ragging squad that takes care to see that such incidents do not happen on campus.
