Shree Bankey Bihari Dental College and Research Center is a dental college approved by the Dental Council of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India. The college is affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut/ Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow.

Their main aim is to provide the best dental education to the students and try their best to help the students to reach their goals and aims in life. The college provides both BDS and MDS courses for the students.

The institute provides many educational programs such as paper presentations, CDE program, quiz competitions, etc which helps the students to become the best in their profession, and also helps to keep the morals and values of the college.

Basics you must know about BDS

Dentistry is a branch of science that requires the art and skill of the patient.

To become the best dentist they need a mixture of skill and art. The academic year is categorized as in the beginning they have preclinical and later on clinical hours. The first starts with preclinical such as wax carving and when they come to the second year they have preclinical hours such as preclinical prosthodontics and preclinical conservative dentistry.

In preclinical prosthodontics they have quotas such as teeth setting, taking an impression in the cast, pouring of the cast, marking the anatomical landmarks, etc.

This helps the students to learn scientific theories and acquire practical knowledge about the basics. They are learned this in phantom using their motor skills.

Once they enter the third year they start working on the patients. In the beginning days, they have discussions on each subject.

The students are grouped into different departments and they have quotas to be completed in each department.

Once they are thorough with the cases they are supposed to start with the cases. In the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, they are supposed to do cases such as extraction, alveoloplasty, an arch bar in the cast, etc.

In the department of Periodontics, they are supposed to take up cases such as scaling, tooth cleaning, etc.

In the department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, they are supposed to record cases, special cases such as cysts, tumours, swelling, etc. Apart from this, they learned to take up the radiograph, process of X-Ray.

In the department of Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, they are supposed to take up the cases of removable partial dentures and complete partial dentures.

In the third year replacement of a few teeth is done and they have a quota to replace the missing complete edentulous.

In the department of conservative dentistry and Endodontics, they are supposed to do cases such as filling of the tooth with GIC, amalgam restoration, composite restoration, cavity preparation, etc.

In the department of Public Health dentistry, they have discussions in the department, quota to record the cases, and attend camps.

The college conducts various dental camps in rural and urban areas such as oral hygiene camps, brushing techniques, and how to maintain your teeth. Also details about oral cancer and different habits.

They conduct tobacco cessation camps by preparing posters, speeches, etc.

Every year May 31st is conducted ad No Tobacco day. Like this many programs are conducted by the college.

In the department of Pedodontics and preventive dentistry, they are supposed to give discussions in the beginning days and later on take up the cases. The cases done by them are filling, extraction, etc.

Attendance is a must in college, then only they are supposed to give exams. Students who don’t have minimum attendance are not supposed to give exams. They are asked to attend the classes and give exams in the next six months.

Also as mentioned above students have a quota to be completed each year and those who failed to complete won’t be allowed to enter the next year.

Talking about the exams, there will be three internal exams and one university exam conducted every year. The average of all the internals will be taken and added up in the final exam.

The college was started in the year 2004. In the initial days, they had only BDS courses in the institution, and later on, MDS courses were added.

After 8 successful years, the MDS or postgraduation courses were added to the institution. There is a total of 28 seats for MDS and 100 seats for BDS in the college.

The college also has well clinical skill laboratory that helps to improve the clinical experience which helps the students to prepare for patient work.

The college is working under the undergraduate dental training program leading to a BDS degree recognized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India and it shall be 5 years with 240 teaching days in each academic year up to  4 years and 1-year compulsory rotary internship.

BDS is a five-year course with one year of compulsory rotary internship.

FIRST-YEAR SYLLABUS

  • General Human Anatomy including Embryology and Histology.
  • General Human Physiology and Biochemistry Nutrition and Dietic.

FIFTH-YEAR

The final year includes one year of compulsory rotary internship which is a must. If the student failed to complete the internship the permanent certificate won’t be given by the university.

There will be three internal exams and one university exam conducted every year in the college. Students who have to carry 1 paper can enter the next year but those who have carried 2 or more papers are not supposed to enter the next academic year.

In the final year, they have 8 subjects. There will be 8 theory and practical exams conducted by the college.

The rules and regulations to be followed to give BDS university exam are given below:

  • Candidates must have 75 per cent of attendance individually in both practical and theory exams every year.
  • In case there is no exam for any subject at the end of the academic year the attendance of the students must not be less than 70 per cent.

Also at the time of appearing for the exam, the aggregate percentage of attendance of the subject should satisfy the above-mentioned criteria.

  • Students who do not clear the first-year university exam in all subjects within 3 years from the date of admission shall be debarred from the course.
  • The candidate who is failed in any one subject is permitted to go to the next higher class and to appear for the subject and complete it successfully before he or she is permitted for the higher examination.

WHAT ARE THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE?

  • Admission to Shree Bankey Dental College and Research Center is done through the NEET entrance examination.
  • The candidate must have qualified for the NEET entrance examination conducted by the National Board of Examination or as per the guidelines of the Honorable Supreme Court or Ministry of Health and Family.
  • The duration of the course is 4 years + 1 year of rotary internship.
  • The candidate must have passed the 10th and 12th standard examinations with 50 per cent of marks in physics, chemistry, biology, maths, and English which is considered eligible to join BDS.
  • The minimum eligibility criteria to join MDS is that candidate must have completed the BDS course with one year of rotary internship and must be registered in the state dental council.
  • Admission for MDS is done on the basis of NEET MDS.
  • The college also offers a scholarship to the top three meritorious candidates.
  • Candidate must be of minimum 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • The candidate must also pass in English in order to be eligible for admission.

What facilities are available at Shree Bankey Bihari Dental college?

Hostel

Separate boys and girls’ hostels are available in the college. The hostel has facilities for recreation rooms and a gymnasium. The hostel is well equipped with modern amenities.

  • Digital facilities such as Wi-Fi, telecommunication facilities, computer,s, etc are available.
  • Medical and dental facilities are available where a medical officer attends to the medical need of the student.
  • For any emergency, a 24-hour ambulance is available at the college.

The college has an intake of 100 students every year for BDS and 28 students every year for MDS. Apart from academics college encourages students in curricular and extracurricular activities such as sports, games, etc.

They also conduct CDE programs, paper presentations, journal presentations, etc.

Admission to this college is done through the NEET examination. Once the students give the exam and select their preference of the college and get selected into the particular college. The next step will be document verification and other admission formalities conducted by the college.

College provides a syllabus for students extensively designed for students aspiring to the dental and medical profession. The college is striving hard to be among the top dental colleges in India.

The syllabus gives sufficient exposure for the students in the practical as well as theoretical parts of the career.
