No, it is impossible to take direct admission to MBBS without NEET.

MBBS without NEET is not possible for Indian students in India or abroad. It is compulsory to qualify NEET to study MBBS in India. Students will not get admission to any foreign medical university approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) without NEET.

All medical colleges, whether private, Deemed or government, require NEET scores for admissions. It is important to note that NEET is a national-level examination, and its results are widely recognized by medical institutions in India.

You have to appear and qualify NEET-UG Exam to get Direct MBBS Admission even for Management Quota or NRI Quota seats.

Guide to Direct Admission to MBBS [2024]

Before introducing the NEET-UG entrance exam, it was very easy to take direct admission for MBBS in India. If you met the basic eligibility criteria, you could directly join by paying the fees.

But now, in 2024, the process has changed, and it is compulsory to qualify for the NEET in order to gain MBBS admission in India. The procedure for direct admission in MBBS is also considered very lengthy, and involves many steps.

Steps in Direct Admission in MBBS

I will list the steps first and explain them in detail below.

Here are the steps to follow for Direct Admission in MBBS:

  1. Qualify for the NEET-UG entrance exam.
  2. Register for state counseling.
  3. Document verification procedure.
  4. First-round counseling.
  5. Second Round counseling.
  6. MOP-UP Round.
  7. Stray Vacancy Round.
  8. Reporting to the college.

If you want to get Direct Admission in MBBS, then you should follow all the steps given below

Step 1: Qualify NEET-UG Entrance Exam

The first and most important step is to apply for the NEET-UG entrance exam and qualify for the exam.
Now, the next question that comes to your mind is -> Can I get direct MBBS admission without NEET?
The answer is NO.
To taking admission to any medical college in India or even abroad, you must qualify for the NEET exam.
Even if you want to take MBBS admission abroad, you have to qualify for NEET.
This is the reason I told you that this article is going to be a myth-buster.

Step 2: Register for State Counselling

Now that you have qualified for the exam, you must attend the counseling conducted by the state authorities or central authority i.e. MCC.

Think you want to join MBBS in Uttar Pradesh, then you must register for the counseling conducted by the UP state counseling authority.

For Karnataka, You have to register in KEA. The State authorities are responsible for the counseling procedures of colleges in their respective states, and MCC is responsible for the counseling process of Deemed Universities and 50 % AIQ in all government medical colleges of the country.

Every state has its separate counseling; however, some state invites students from all over the country to register for the counseling procedures in their private medical colleges, whereas some state doesn’t.

Is it necessary to attend counseling if I am going to take direct admission?

Of course, you have to register and also attend the counseling procedures. Firstly, you must lock your options and try through merit by applying in the counseling procedure.

Important: If you didn’t attend the complete counseling procedure, then you won’t be eligible to take direct admission in MBBS in any state.

Step 3: Document Verification

After the registration, there would be a process of document verification either through online or offline mode. In offline mode, the counseling authorities will ask the students to come to different centers in the state for verification of their documents, whereas in online mode, some necessary documents listed on the website have to be uploaded.

You must carry all the original documents, which the officials will cross-check and give you a verification slip.

In a few states, the candidates must also submit a demand draft of 1 lakh or 2 lakh rupees to the government as security, which will be refunded to your bank account after the counseling procedures.

Now, most of the procedures left will be conducted in online.

Step 4: First Counselling

The first and second counseling will be online. You have to log in to the portal with your login credentials. After that, you have to choose the college of your choice in descending order. After choosing you to have to lock the choices and submit them.
Then comes the first counseling results. If you have been allotted any seats, then you can see them. If not, then you have to attend the 2nd counseling.

Step 5: Second Counseling

The same procedure of the first round of counseling repeats here. If you are not able to secure MBBS  seats in the second round, then you can attend the MOP-UP round.

Step 6: MOP-UP Round

This round is completely offline in most of the states in India. The vacant seats after the second round will be given through the MOP-UP round to students who are present at the counseling center. However, some state like Karnataka conducts an online mode of MopUp. You didn’t get MBBS admission through the MOP-UP round, too? Now comes the stray Vacancy round.

Step 7: Stray Vacancy Round

Earlier such as till year 2022 ,the leftover or vacant seats are transferred to the management, and the colleges use to conduct the offline stray vacancy round. However, from the academic session of 2024 , this process of offline counselling has been abolished in all the states in India. Online counselling process is been conducted for the leftover vacant seats. Some states such as Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand conducted offline counselling process after mop up round of counselling, but that too was done at the counselling centre and not at any college level. We can help guide you through the entire process and secure a seat.

Very Important: You won’t be eligible to take direct admission to MBBS if you don’t register and attend all rounds of counseling.

Direct Admission in MBBS without Donations [2024]

Everyone wants to take direct admission to MBBS without any donation to the top colleges.

So here I will explain to you the truth, which most people hide.

It is true that colleges don’t charge any donation after the introduction of NEET centralized counseling. But, the tuition fees have increased a lot.

A few years back MBBS seat in a reputed college will cost you around 1 crore Indian rupees, as the colleges charge a huge donation.

But even after introducing centralized counseling, the total package is the same as every college has a tuition fee ranging from Rs.13 lakhs to Rs. 27 lakhs per year for management quota and approx 35 lacks per annum to 40 lacks per annum in higher fees quota and NRI Quota.

Students keep hope till the last moment that they will get MBBS direct admission at a cheap price, but at last, they end up losing their one year.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Direct admission to MBBS without donation is possible only if you register and attend all the rounds of counseling conducted by respective authorities of each state in India. If the seats are vacant even after the MOP-UP round, then the stray vacancy round will be conducted, those candidates who have registered for the online counseling can take part in this round. If you haven’t secured seats through any of these rounds, then you can try through management quota. To know the process involved you can also read MBBS Admission Through Management Quota.

Choosing the Right College for MBBS Direct Admission

Choosing a Suitable MBBS College [2024]

There are hundreds of medical colleges in India, and it is not an easy task to choose the best one suitable for you.

I just made a checklist that will make it easier for you to choose the best private MBBS college for you.

Let me give you a brief about choosing a medical college first. Then I will explain in detail each factor.

The following are the factors to consider before Choosing a Suitable College for MBBS Direct Admission:

  • College with proper affiliations and approvals.
  • College with great patient exposure.
  • Good Location of the college.
  • Medical college with great faculties.
  • The college must have the latest equipment.
  • Affordable tuition and extra fees.

Now let me tell you about each factor and how it will benefit your future.

Affiliations & Approvals

The college must be affiliated with a reputed university and also approved by the Medical Council of India or MCI.

Last year, more than 20 colleges lost their approval from the MCI. Before joining the college, please go through the official MCI website.

Patient Exposure

The main aim of a doctor is to treat patients. So, in order to have treating or clinical experience, the college must have excellent patient exposure.

There must be enough patients for the students, and you must enquire about the patient-student ratio. The location also serves a great role in providing more patients to the institutes. Any area that is deprived of good healthcare facilities, such as medical colleges serves a niche to serve the patients of those areas.

Faculties

You must also have a clear idea about the head of each department under whom you will be learning.

The college must have the best faculties, especially in the clinical departments.

Technologies & Equipment

The medical college must be using the latest equipment and technologies for treating patients.

This will keep you updated about the latest technologies used in the healthcare industry.

Tuition Fees and Extra Fees

Most of the medical colleges in India charge hidden charges. Before joining any college, you must have a clear idea about the extra charges.

I have also seen colleges that charge seven lakhs per annum for hostel and food, where the hostel is compulsory for all students.

Direct Admission in MBBS Fee Structure [Updated 2024]

I will be making this section straight and clear, as there is limited information regarding this.

Who decides the fee structure?

The fee structure is decided by the college for each quota and is submitted to the state authorities. After their approval, they will implement it during counseling.

The lowest fee structure I have noticed is 7.50 lakhs per annum, and the maximum fee is around 27 lakhs per year, depending on the colleges.

Apart from these fees, the student has to pay hostel fees. In most of the colleges, the hostel and food charges will start from 1.50 lakh rupees per year.

Many colleges charge a hostel fee of around 7 lakhs per annum, too.

Apart from this, there will be extra charges for:

  • Eligibility certificate.
  • Material fees.
  • Examination fees.
  • University fees, etc.

Alert: Please enquire about the extra fees before joining the college.
