How to Select a Dental College for BDS Admission?

Read this carefully because this is the best resource available online to select a dental college for your studies. The two major things you should check are patient exposure and college management.

Patient Exposure

  • We highly recommend you to join dental colleges with excellent patient OPD records. Without studying hands-on dentistry, you are wasting your valuable time. So, choose us in your college selection or use your resources to find out the real idea about the college.
  • Please do inquire about the college and its patient exposure. In some colleges, there will be a lot of patients. But, the student-to-patient ratio will be bad because of lots of PG Seats in that college.

Faculty

Faculties in clinical departments should be the best. Best doesn’t mean he/she should be a gold medalist or rank holder. What I mean is, whether the lecturer has the confidence to give the students a chance to work. We have seen colleges only giving their students just cavity-filling training.

We also know colleges where that will provide you with Root Canal Treatment and a chance of hands-on experience for treating Impacted teeth.

Extra Charges and Management-Student Relation

  • Some college managers are the worst and they annoy students with petty fees in the name of fines, shortage fees, etc. Know about that too. In the past 15 years, we have experienced almost all the dental college management in India.
  • We will guide you to the colleges where absolute transparency is there and no hidden surprises in terms of extra misc fees.
  • Management-Student relations should be good. Some dental colleges in India have the worst management and they give the students an unreasonable burden. This is not that big of an issue, but still, keep that in mind.

Stipend

  • Try to opt for dental colleges that provide a decent stipend of at least Rs.3000 to Rs.5000 per month in the internship.
  • There are very few dental colleges in India that provide stipends to students.

These are the main points to keep in mind while selecting a private dental college in India for BDS admission through the management quota.

You want to keep a few other things in mind while selecting a dental college for BDS admission. (Not that serious, but parents might be serious about this:

  • Dental College location and distance from your place. In India, this is what parents want to know and ensure their child’s safety.
  • Climatic Conditions are also one thing you want to see if you are allergic to any climate. I had seen in some areas the water is not good, and the students get jaundice.

BDS Management Quota Fees in India

Most students and parents are really confused about the BDS Management quota fees in India. Yes, there are many misconceptions about the fee structure for BDS in management and the NRI quota also.

First, you must understand that the fee structure will differ for different colleges depending on the location or state. The fee structure will also be very different for private and deemed dental colleges.

BDS Management Quota Fees in Private Dental College

The fee structure for BDS starts from Rs.8 lakhs to Rs.25 lakhs in different dental colleges, depending on different states. This will include your tuition fees, hostel, and mess charge too.

Yes, you heard it right, many colleges charge very low fees too. But, as in my experience, We would suggest you to not choose these colleges due to their low educational and infrastructure quality.

If you are looking for a decent dental college, it will cost you around 12-15 lakhs total package including hostel, food, and other charges. If you are choosing colleges in states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, etc, it will cost you around Rs.15 lakhs, excluding your hostel, food, and material charges.

We can guide you to an excellent dental college in India, a 9 lakhs total package including hostel, food, tuition fees, and transportation.

BDS Management Quota Fees in Deemed Dental Colleges

The counseling will be done through the MCC for colleges that come under the deemed university. The BDS management quota fees for deemed dental colleges will be around Rs.4.50 to Rs.7.50, depending on different colleges. This fee excludes the hostel, food, and material charges.

BDS management quota fees in Bangalore, Karnataka

The fees for dental colleges in Karnataka are determined collaboratively by the Karnataka Examination Authority, College Management, and State Government. They set a maximum tuition fee that each dental college can charge.

This year, first-year tuition fees for all dental colleges in Karnataka range from 1.87 Lakhs to 7.45 Lakhs. Generally, colleges in Bangalore have a slightly higher fee structure compared to those in other locations like Shimoga, Raichur, and Chitradurga.

This disparity is influenced by the preference of students to study in Bangalore, primarily due to the city’s transportation facilities and the prioritization of Bangalore by parents.

As we move away from Bangalore, the fee structure becomes more reasonable. Some colleges, struggling to fill their seats through counseling, may reduce their fees to attract students who were unable to secure seats due to affordability concerns.

While Bangalore has only a few dental colleges, it attracts a large number of dental aspirants from other parts of the country, making it challenging to find seats at lower prices.

However, a few colleges in the city may offer reduced tuition fees to fill their seats. Apart from tuition fees, students are also required to pay additional charges such as hostel fees, mess fees, material fees, book fees, and instrument fees.

Miscellaneous fees, including refundable security deposits for hostels, university fees, and eligibility fees, are also part of the financial considerations.

Additionally, transportation fees typically range from 20,000 to 50,000 per annum, depending on the college, while hostel fees, covering food, stay, electricity, and maintenance, generally range from 70,000 to 100,000 per annum.

CategoryFees
Tuition Fees (First Year)1,87000 – 7,45000
Transportation Fees (per annum)20,000 – 50,000
Hostel Fees (per annum)70,000 – 100,000

Additional Fees:

  • Hostel, mess, materials, books, instruments, etc.
  • Miscellaneous fees: Refundable security deposits for Hostel, University Fees, Eligibility fees, Material fees.

Note: The tuition fees vary based on the location, with colleges in Bangalore generally having a slightly higher fee structure compared to other locations such as Shimoga, Raichur, and Chitradurga.

    • Hi Veronica !

For NEET qualification you should score at least 50%. In Kerala for NRI students, 10 lakhs won’t be enough. I can get you the same in Delhi and even try to get below 10 lakhs in good dental colleges in other places.

  32. How is it possible to book a seat just like that? Since supreme court has made it mandatory to do centralised counsilling for all the colleges even private and gov?

    Reply
    • Yes its true that supreme court had given a strict order on centralized counseling. We have the average and approximate rank to college ratio. And will give you few colleges which can be done with your marks and ranking. And the procedure will be only through counseling.

BDS admission should be through centralized counseling only.

    • Dear Junaid,

I won’t be able to predict the NEET qualification marks. If you qualify the exam, you will surely be able to get admission in a dental college in Kannur. The fees will be fixed by the state government body conducting the counseling procedure. Yes, even for BDS admission through management quota. The fee range might be somewhere around 2.75-3.5 lakhs per annum which will be excluding hostel, food, material, and other fees.

    • Dear Ganga,

The fee structure ranges from college and state government rules. So, please be specific with the requirement of your kind of dental college.
